    I will be covering updates and info on the new 2nd gen iPod Touch.

    Update 1: iPod Touch Generation 2 released at Apple Let's Rock event on September 9th, 2008. (Front Page)

    Update 2: New iPod is thicker and lighter however, it SEEMS thinner measuring 8.5mm while the other measures only 8, has better battery life, physical volume buttons, and a built in speaker. It seems to run 2.1 which has just been released. (Page 2)

    Update 3: iPod Touch has new packaging. Its now plastic and more environmentally friendly. (Front Page)

    Update 4: 2nd gen Touch runs 2.1.1 instead of 2.1 for some reason. Probably for support on the new hardware. (iPhone Atlas)

    new ipod is thinner??? according to my research it is thicker!! 8mm (old) vs. 8.5mm (new) unless the info i found was wrong

    It's definately thinner. I put the 2nd gen ipod in my 1st gen ipod's silicone case and for the most part it fits, it's just a little bit loose. so it's definately a bit thinner, especially around the corners.

    Can you see the image in my above post?

    Also, its been reported that the new one is 8.5mm thick and the old is 8. The edges are thinner though as they are curved.

    I'll look it up right now.

    EDIT: The iPod Touch is said to be 0.53 and the Gen 2 0.33.

    it seems to be thinner because of the tapered edges, its 8.5 mm and the old one is 8 mm so its definitely thicker, but its made to feel thinner

    The iPod Touch is said to be 0.53 and the Gen 2 0.33. I'll stick with that its thicker though.

    the new one is 8.4 mm and the older one is 8 mm. must i do the math?
    its made to FEEL thinner, its not really any thinner
