    Is any one know for certain if updating from 2.1 to 2.2 will cause the data to be deleted from ipod touch?

    I have a lot of data on my ipod and I'm not sure if it will delete them if I update my firmware.

    Thanks

    it wont delete anything unless your iPod is jailbroken.
    if its jailbroken, then all ur jailbreak stuff will be erased

    I have a non-jailbroken 2nd gen iPod Touch, just upgraded from 2.1.1 to 2.2.
    Didn't lose any of my files (music, videos, free apps, calendar entries, contacts, all that). They're all still there.

    Anything not in /var/mobile/media is deleted. This means /var/stash/* is gone (apps, themes, you name it). If you downloaded stuff via MobileFinder, thats going to get deleted too... unless it was backed up in iTunes and you resync the data on (aka: the stuff in /var/mobile/Applications/<MobileStudio Folder>/Documents.

    Yeah, upgrading a non-jailbroken iPod touch from 2.x to 2.2 will not affect your media (applications, music, videos and so forth). It will all be there after the firmware update.

    ok, couple quick questions on a similar topic. Would I lose data if I upgrade from:

    Jailbroken 1.0 -> Official 2.2?

    Jailbroken 1.0 -> Jailbroken 2.2?

    I don't care about custom apps but I want to save my Contacts, Calendar and Notes if possible. Thanks for the clarification!

    Yes, you'll save your contacts, calendar, notes and so forth.

    You only loose jailbroken content/applications when you upgrade the firmware.

    Thanks, so regardless of whether I upgrade to jailbroken 2.2 or the official 2.2 from jailbroken 1.0, I will not lose any data?

    If you upgrade to official Firmware 2.2, you won't lose your data.

    If you decide afterwards to jailbreak it after the method is released to do so, you'll loose your data at that point.
