tethered jailbreak is old and theres no point in using it now. Tethered meant everytime you completly turned off your ipod you needed to connect it to a computer to boot it.

You mean like when u shut down the ipod, like non-standby, it had to be connected to a computer to turn it on again? The 1g generation jailbreaks were never like that right? Only some of the first 2g's were like that or what?

If you turn of you ipod completely you need to connect you iPod with you PC to Boot it up if you gonna use a Thetered JB.

Un-Thetered means, you can shut down you iPod and boot it up as always without using a PC.

Tethered jailbreak needs a boot file to be ran everytime you restart your iPod, if not, it hangs at the boot logo. Tethered jailbreaks were for iPod Touch 2G's back in the 18th century before they found the untethered jailbreaks.

Untethered jailbreaks need no help booting and do not need to be rejailbroken. redsn0w is the most popular tool for this. DO NOT USE redsn0w lite to jailbreak.

    If you have 3.0 firmware, download redsn0w 0.7.1 (NOT 0.8 or 0.7.2)
If you have 2.2.1 firmware, download redsn0w 0.3 or if you want to be safe, use QuickFreedom

    redsn0w 0.3 (*******) - http://*******s.[PIRACY.tb].org/4841586/redsn0w-win_0.3.zip.4841586.TPB.*******

When turned back on it needs rejailbroked... Wich is why untetherd is better cause there is no rejailbreaking to turn it on.
