    Ok.
    I have my iPhone 2g currently unlocked and jailbroken.
    I feel the phone is suffering from draining things such as cydia and installer.
    Is there any way i can unlock the iphone only and get rid of the jailbroken option?

    No, you cannot. But Cydia and Installer are not going to slow your phone down in any way. They do not run unless you are using them, and thus do not take up resources of the phone.

    If you use Pwnage you can tell it to not install Installer and Cydia.

    It will still be jailbroken but you wouldn't be able to tell. It will also be unlocked then too.

    Do you need Cydia to unlock a 2G? I know you do on the 3G

    Not exactly;

    You can "neuter" the bootloader (BL) on the 2G's when going through the process and it will do the unlock for you.

    The 3G's BL can't be touched so you have to use Cydia and go that route.
