Ok the Apple websites have been updated but ive noticed something odd. On the American website the picture of the 3G iPhone has AT&T on the top left of the screen (like the orginal iPhone) but on the UK site its just blank:

Is this a clue to a UK unlocked iPhone? Or maybe a new carrier?

Even if you click on where to buy it still says you can get 'iPhone' from O2, no word on 3G

this could be the "Yay" moment, but i doubt it.

a possible reason for the no network symbol on the Apple store is that they dont haev to have seperate pictures for every country. the US is there biggest market so they have the AT&T symbol but all over the world its different networks.

I HIGHLY doubt that for the price and the size of the ipod they are going to remove cotnract completely. The ipod would be much more expensive if they did this. And i cant think of a single 3G phone that you can get off contract thats not £200+.

also if it was off contract the 3G services, Web, ect would be REDICULARSLY expensive

I remember hearing a rumor, a while back sayin that european countries would be getting unlocked iPhone 3Gs and the US were stuck with AT&T due to the deal agreement with Apple and some other crap. All other countries dont have a carrier icon so there is hope! lol
