A few months ago I bought my iPhone (1st generation, 8gb) off eBay. It's unlocked to all networks. The 3.0 update comes out soon and I reaaally want it haha. But if I upgrade, will my iPhone not be unlocked anymore? I'm not sure if it was factory unlocked or jailbroken. I don't think it was jailbroken because Cydia (or any other Jailbreaking apps) isn't on it

As of now 3.0 is not unlocked, this doesnt mean that there wont be an unlock for 3.0, i would wait until 3.0 is officially unlocked if you need your phone unlocked.

    Ahh I'm so confused..
If I upgrade to 3.0 when it's released, will my phone still be unlocked afterwards?

I think you are safe. What is the baseband on the 2G's 3.0? I think the unlock is so deep the update can't touch it, but I am not sure either (sorry!). As said before wait until it can be confirmed.

I have an iPhone 2g & T-Mobile...I used PwnageTool (you have to use PwnageTool, QuickPwn won't work) to install a jailbroken version of 2.2.1 (I restored, did not update), unlocked and activated. Then I used update in iTunes to update to 3.0. T-Mobile still works, except that Youtube doesn't work (on EDGE or WiFi) and Push Notifications don't work (even if you connect to iTunes like it asks you to).

If you want a data plan through T-Mobile, they have several data plans that are relatively inexpensive, but to use the internet when not on WiFi, you have to have a data plan, and change your network settings so the APN is internet2.voicestream.com (or epc.tmobile.com, or something similar).
