Yea... I think I might buy an Iphone 1G from a friend for 100 bucks.

I don't think he's unlocked it at all (I don't know if the 1G unlock is even possible), but if it is...

If he originally had an ATT sim card in there... and I could unlock it and put in a Tmobile sim card.. would that still work?

I know the data would be screwy... but I could send/receive SMS and talk??

    Sweet.

So I'm actually going to buy a cheap gophone and use that SIM card. That will work right?

And do I need to have the SIM card in the phone while unlocking/jailbreaking it? Or do I first unlock it and then put in the sim card.

(This is my first time ever using a GSM phone and SIM card, so I have no idea).

So.. I felt like asking an ATT advisor about if a first gen Iphone will work with a gophone sim.

    Here's what I got:

The GoPhone plan will not work with a "virgin" iPhone. You will have to unlock it to work but it works fine with it unlocked.

Be careful with the Data you use. I would still be with my Go Phone if AT+T still had the unlimited data. Unless they changed it they only offer 5MB and 10MB and you will use that up fairly quickly.

B4 - you likely *will* have to unlock the phone as in it's factory state you have to activate it with AT&T and then accept a 2 year contract with phone and data plan.

Once you unlock I would think your SIM would work..

you don't have to activate it with an active AT&T sim. Just restore it like normal and it will bring you the emergency screen. Just ignore that and Jailbreak the phone + Unlock. Once unlocked, it will boot up to the normal screen and insert your sim card like normal.

Whats the best way to unlock a 2.2.1 iPhone 2G?
I don't have a sim, but I would be getting one after I unlock.
