unknown ipod touch gen/fw

    2G iPod touch
    im trying to jailbreak my friends ipod touch. thing is, he was previously jailbroken before and somehow his settings app got deleted. now we dont know his fw or his gen. is there a way to tell?

    Plug into iTunes and see
    Or download UDIDit from the AppStore and it will tell you some info.

    Also, try searching for settings in Spotlight on the iPod. Maybe it was accidently hidden and not deleted.

    Just restore via iTunes.

    If he has a recent backup, nothing will change. And then you can re-jailbreak.

    The generation is on the back... (well the model # which by knowing that you can tell). And the FW if he has spotlight its 3.x+ if not its most likely 2.2.1 (or what ever it is).

    If the model # is: MCxxxx its a 3G.

    If it's: MBxxxx its a 2G.

    If it has a round back its a 2G or 3G.

    If it has a flat back its a 1G.

    model number A1 2g... he has voice memos so its 3.X so which jailbreak should i use if i dont know the exact firmware? because we dont have his itunes to back up and the app store icon got deleted also...

    Wow, sorry. I was thinking that the model # was the same... Anyways, my 2G has an A1xx So i suppose its a 2G. Also, have you plugged it into itunes? that would tell you.

    ended up getting spirit and seeing what it said. turned out to be 2g 3.1.3 but thanks all. also the settings app was gone because on sbsettings he had previously hid the app and never turned it back on
