I've got the exact same problem with Vista-32 and quickfreedom will not recognize that i've installed LIBUSB no matter what i try which i believe is the root of the problem. I've ran it as an admin, verified the certificate, followed the read-me's and searched on here for a solution to no avail.

Works fine with Itunes, but no matter what i try quickfreedom tells me i need to install LIBUSB and that i've got the correct 2.2.1 firmware already installed. This is a brand new touch 2G, nothing has been done to it i just received it 3 days ago as a gift purchased at fry's.

    Here's what worked with me:

Uninstall quickfreedom. Do complete restore of iPod. Uninstall libusb.exe Redownload QuickFreedom.

IMPORTANT!!!!! Right-click on the install file for quickfreedom. go to compatibility tab. Check "Windows XP (Service Pack 2).
    Open up program. Install.
Once finished, right-click on desktop icon. run in compatibility mode, if not already.
Go to C:\Program Files\QuickFreedom\Boot (or files, i forget)
Find the libusb.exe icon DO NOT CLICK INSTALL!!!! Run it in compatibility mode as Windows XP OR IT WILL CRASH YOUR SYSTEM!!! Install. Restart QuickFreedom, everything should be fine.

Note: You could try pressing "F5" to, to refresh it.
