My iPod touch is on the way to me in the mail. I am wondering if I can jailbreak to configure an editable calendar and install Mail, Maps, Notes and Weather and then uninstall Installer.app, SSH, and everything else that the Jailbreak does.

All I want to do is install those apps and that's it. I don't really want Summerboard, unless it is necessary. I also don't want the Installer.app, either, as I won't have any need for it once it's all good to go. Does anyone have any insight?

If you go to the Uninstall tab of Installer, you are given the option of uninstalling Installer. As to what will happen afterwards... I have no clue, nor do I want to try it to find out. Just letting you know that it looks possible.

Or you could keep them their and install a application called dock if you would ever need it and it has a little starburst in the corner. But this is optional, then the next step would to be to install a application called customize and hide installer.app and if you jailbreak on 1.1.2 service.app. BTW if you jailbreak on 1.1.1 you wont have the SSH app unless you install it yourself. But why get rid of it, you never know if a application you like comes out. You really aren't doing anything harmful because you can easily restore it to it's factory state.

Well you could get customize and place all the icon of the apps you don't want in the "hidden" panel. I'm not sure if this woud work cause I don't even own an iTouch.

I'm pretty sure there's a jailbreak method that does not install summerboard automatically. After that, just SSH into your ipod and remove the installer.app folder
