Okay, I have a jailbroken firmware 2.1 iPod Touch 1st gen. Will I need to un-jailbreak my Touch before I update it?

That's your opinion. Clearly he wants to update.

Anyways, if you simply hit the Update button it will upgrade you to Firmware 2.2 regardless of whether you're jailbroken or not.

I just updated (without restring) and it hasn't *completly* cleared my iPod. I had many songs uploaded via ssh (to listen with PwnPlayer). After update it was marked as "other" but still was consuming space. And one more thing. I had "operator name" changed in WinterBoard and... it was still modified after update :O

So I restored 2.2 to delete things that aren't accessible at the moment.

If you had things like themes, JB apps, etc, they will be removed. If you had a custom carrior, or a custom badge on an app, it will stay after you update. All media and photos and settings will be there still, untouched.
