The first issue is the Mail.app. It is always running backgrounded. I have tried to close it via SBSettings, but it keeps showing that it is running. I have rebooted the iPod, and it is running. Is this supposed to do this, or can I fix it?

Also, today while listening to music, my iPod started lagging really bad. I was also playing Angry Birds. I hit home, and resprang my iPod. When I went to go into the iPod.app, no music was there. It said no content, you can download music from iTunes. This is weird because I just had all my songs 5 seconds earlier, and they somehow were deleted.

Does anyone have solutions to these? iPod touch 2g, 3.1.3

Yes, it is not that I am worried about memory or anything, I just don't want or need it running.

    Check under Settings>Mail

There's something about 'Push' or 'Fetch Mail', turn it OFF.

Ok, thanks. And about the music thing? I can easily sync back, but does anyone know why it happened?

There's never really been an explanation for that, it's happened since 1.1.1 for iPods and iPhones. I personally think it's because there was a glitch in the music.app in that specific instance in which you were accessing your media files and it causes them to be deauthorized as viable content. Because I guarantee you your music is still there, but there is no way to make them readable again, so you may have to delete them through ssh, or possibly not.

I think Apro is correct. Because as soon as I plugged my iPod in, all the music appeared. It did not sync any new content.
