This is a discussion thread for the "Tweet This: Twitter Abandoning Official OS X App" story posted on the front page.
Who cares? I don't use Twitter. Can't people just use a browser? IMO the browser is better than an App...and there is now Twitter integration, so I can see why Twitter is pulling it...
Maybe the people who use Twitter? Like exhibit A. This blog doesn't resolve all around you ya'know? A browser is also slower than an app. I'd prefer an app thank you very much. So I really don't understand your logic.
This kinda sucks, considering Twitter is also restricting it's API to discourage third party devs from making better alternative (like Tweetbot). I don't like Twitter's browser view, it's just an extra tab to have open. With the app, I can browse and have my entire timeline open on the far left side of my screen, with both Dock and Menubar notifications. That all being said, they haven't updated Twitter for Mac in quite a long time, and as long as it continues to do what it does now, I'm content with it as it is (or until TweetBot gets more customization features).
Thanks for sticking up for Mac Twitter users like myself. Personally, the official Twitter app for Mac wasn't really good. I am using Twitterrific for Mac, a nice investment of $5. Just note that there are other choices other than the official app by Twitter, so this news isn't entirely bad.
Get the alternatives while you can, folks. Twitterrific and Tweetbot (when it releases) are both superior apps that are likely going to be chained down by Twitter's stupidity.
Well if Twitter aren't going to support their own clients anymore, except (presumably) those on Windows like TweeTRO and MetroTwit (do they even have a Twitter for Windows client?) I assume they'll be forcing us to use the service from within a browser. No, just no. Browser Twitter is slow and clunky...and annoying. Almost like Twitter for Android.
The Twitter app for Mac was not good to begin with.. I was hoping they would at least update it for my retina MacBook. And now I can't use Tweetbot (Twitter killed it) for Mac which was much, much better in my opinion.
