This is for all of you out there who are stuck in recovery loops, tethered or untethered.

While I know for a fact that this works 100% for a regular ipod that gets thrown into recovery mode and allows for a quick way out without a restore, I've heard of people using these same commands to use before booting with blackra1n.

    1. Download iRecovery http://www.posixninja.org/downloads.html
    2. Extract iRecovery all the way to a directory of your choice (I used C:\ for simplicity in this).
    3. Open up cmd.exe
    4. Use the command "cd ______" fill in the _____ with whatever folder you extracted iRecovery to...so I would put... "cd C:\irecovery"
    5. type this "irecovery.exe -s"

once you hit enter after typing that in...it should look like this.

    6. Enter the following in this order:
    setenv auto-boot true
    saveenv
    reboot

    7. You should see your ipod rebooting now...

    If you're NOT jailbroken:
Your iPod should reboot and be back to normal working order!

    If you ARE jailbroken:
Your iPod should once again be in recovery mode, run blackra1n again and it should boot back up after the Geohot picture.

Hope I helped a little guys...I've seen a few of these in different forums around here and thought I'd type this up in 5 minutes.

Good post, but if you successfully get out of recovery with iRecovery, you will only need to run blackra1n again if you are on an iPod 3G of iPhone 3G . MIght want to add that.

yeah im on an iphone 3GS and im in the recovery loop, i was just about to restore to 3.1.3 when i saw this thread, i hope this works, I will give it a try in a few minutes

will this work on an iphone 3GS with the new bootrom (tethered) ?

edit - the battery on my iphone is dead it shows it on red, with a charging icon but when i enter "irecovery.exe -s" it says no ipod/iphone found.

your ipod has to be in recovery mode to use this guide. If it's booted normally, you don't need to use this.

What do you mean recovery loop? Are you sure you don't mean it is in a DFU mode? Does iTunes recognize it?

itunes recognises it and says its in recovery mode and needs to be restored

by recovery loop i mean everytime i run blackra1n it just keeps on rebooting back in to the recovery mode.
