Ive heard after redsn0w beta ipods wont boot, they just stay on the apple boot logo.
This could also happen after using Quickfreedom or even Quickpwn for the 1g and Iphone.

Ok well heres how u fix
    Download a custom 2g 2.2.1 firmware here

Hold home and power for 5 seconds to shut off (Dont turn back on after)
Plug in ipod and put in DFU (Search for instructions on how to do this)
    DFU IS BLACK SCREEN
now in itunes shift-click restore and browse that custom firmware and restore to it.
Should restore and your problem is fixed!
You could possibly get error 1403, just re-download firmware to fix
The problem was caused from synced apps interfering with the jailbreak
to prevent restore and DO NOT sync apps back on b4 jailbreak

    Hopes this helps
