    How to speed up Bochs

So you went and installed Bochs, cool huh? But now you hate having to wait about 10 minutes or more for '95 to boot?

Well this may be your prayers answered

While this tweak isn't anything marvellous (don't expect core i7 speeds), it HALVED my Windows 95 boot time.

Ok, first off, open your SSH program and go to /var/mobile/Library/Bochs/Win95 . Now copy the os.ini file to your desktop and open it in notepad or whatever text editing program you use.

Scroll down to the line 'cpu: count=1, ips=200000'.

You need to change the ips (instructions per second) value. What you change it to depends on what device you're using:

    Code:
    iPod Touch 1st Gen = 412000
    iPod Touch 2nd Gen = 533000

    iPhone original = 412000
    iPhone 3G = 412000
    iPhone 3GS = 600000
Now save the os.ini file and copy it back via SSH, boot up and enjoy the extra speed

    Code:
    [u]The Joey's best '95 boot time[/u]

    4:19
    Code:
    [u]iCrap's best '95 boot time[/u]

    6:17
The results vary between device and this is still not properly tested, on my iPod Touch 1G I got the following results:

    Code:
    [U]Boot Times[/U]

    3.11 (no other processes) > 200,000 (stock) Instructions/sec : 2:10

    3.11 (no other processes) > 400,000 Instructions/sec: 1:47

    Windows 95 (no other processes) > 200,000 (stock) Instructions/sec: 18:51

    Windows 95 (no other processes) > 400,000 Instructions/sec: 9:30

You can also use this tweak on your own custom OSes you might've installed, and of course 3.11; just edit the os.ini file in whatever folder in the same way.

Please post back if this tweak works for you and if you have the time then please record the time difference.

Note: While this is all software based, so it is nearly impossible for any of this to damage devices in any way, I will accept no responsibility for damaged devices

The 3GS has a 600Mhz processor, whereas the 2nd Gen iPod Touch has a 620Mhz processor; hence the higher IPS

    EDIT: Scrap that, sorry

The iPod touch 2G only has 533Mhz

Its unclocked speed is about 600, whereas the 3G S unclocked speeds are about 800.

One more correction, the 1G runs at 412Mhz now, it was changed back in firmware 1.x.x
Apple decided to unclock it a bit.
