since some people in my other thread were very confused I decided to make a little guide on how to get 2.0 for free true iTunes.

I personnaly think that this method is legal because iTunes downloads 2.0 without asking the user. Others won't agree with me but please don't discuss this here. Make another thread.

    Ok let's begin:

    1. Update itunes to version 7.7.0.43 or later here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ And install it.

    2. If you are on an old beta of 2.0 or on 1.1.4 click on restore in iTunes. If you're very lucky 2.0 will already download. If not, don't worry. The best is to restore to 1.1.4 before starting.

    3. Download ziphone at http://www.ziphone.org and install it. Plug your iPod in and open ziphone. Click on the advanced feutures tab at the bottom.

    4. To the right you see a little menu with dfu mode/recovery mode/normal mode.
Click on the dfu mode button.

Dfu mode means "device firmware upgrade mode" and let's the iPod forget "who he is" so iTunes can't recognize it.

    5. If everything went well you see an iTunes icon with an USB cable on your screen. Now open up iTunes again and click on restore. An agreement window for 2.0 will come up and just accept that. If that doesn't happen cancel the restore and decline the agreement. then go to c:\Documents and Settings\[USER]\Application data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates. Move the "iPod1,1_1.1.4_4A102_Restore.ipsw" file to your desktop so that it doesnt show up anymore in the folder. Then click on restore again. (thanks to LordChaosZ).
I didnt verify this. It might now work but logicaly it sould.

    6. Normally 2.0 should download by itself.

If this doesn't work for you I'm sorry and I don't think I can help you. If your iPod breaks it's not my responsability.

    Good luck.

P.s. Don't try to jailbreak 2.0! It's not possible right now!

Yep, this is the same exact version that you will get by paying $10 which includes the January Update.

hold the home and power button together for 10 seconds and let the iPod reboot. Then restore.
