THIS IS ONLY for OS 4.1, The 4.2.1 version is here

This tutorial is for jailbreaking the following devices using the RC4 release of Greenpois0n:

    - iPod touch (4th Generation)
    - iPod touch (3rd Generation)
    - iPod touch (2nd Generation), both MB and MC models

This is an untethered jailbreak for all these devices.

    Before we start.

    • You must have the 4.1 blobs for your device. If you are currently jailbroken, Go to the cydia hompage and look at the top to see what blobs you have on file. If you have never been jailbroken and you didn't manually save you blobs with Tinyumbrella, then this will not work for you.
    • Download the OS 4.1 Firmware for your Device. I can't post links to firmware, so don't ask. Just Google it.
    • If necessary, extract the firmware. It should have an IPSW extension.
    • Place the firmware on your desktop for easy acess.
    • Download TinyUmbrella for WIN or MAC
    • If necessary, extract the program.
    • Place the program on your desktop for easy access.
    • You should be running iTunes 10.

NOTE: It may be wise to avoid syncing all your music and data until after the jailbreak is complete. If the jailbreak fails, then you may have to restore, so the long sync time would have been wasted.

    1. Restore to OS 4.1. Even if you are currently running OS 4.1, partial and failed jailbreaks may interfere with this jailbreak tutorial.

    TO PROPERLY RESTORE:

For those who are not currently Jailbroken: (Regular Restore)
    • Connect Your Device
    • Run TinyUmbrella
    • Request your SHSH blobs from Cydia
    • Start the TSS Server
    • Leave TinyUmbrella Open
    • Open iTunes
    • Open your Device's Tab
    • Hold SHIFT and Click RESTORE
    • An Explorer window should open
    • Browse to your Downloaded Firmware
    • Chose the Firmware and Follow the Remainder of the Restore Process.
    • Once Restored, You may chose to restore an old iTunes Backup as long as the Backup WAS NOT from when you were previously jailbroken.

For those who are currently Jailbroken or have attempted to jailbreak, but failed: (DFU Restore)
    • Connect Your Device
    • Run TinyUmbrella
    • Request your SHSH blobs from Cydia
    • Start the TSS Server
    • Leave TinyUmbrella Open
    • Turn the device completely off. Slide to Power Off.
    • Hold The Power/Sleep and Home buttons.
    • Hold both until you hear the "recognize sound" from your computer.
    • Release the Power/Sleep Button but continue to hold the home button.
    • Your computer should find your device in DFU mode.
    • The screen on your device should be completely black
    • Open iTunes
    • Open your Device's Tab
    • Hold SHIFT and Click RESTORE
    • An Explorer window should open
    • Browse to your Downloaded Firmware
    • Chose the Firmware and Follow the Remainder of the Restore Process.
    • Once Restored, DO NOT restore to a previous iTunes Backup.Choose to setup a new device

NOTE:At this time you should be completely restored. Close both iTunes and TinyUmbrella

    2. Check your settings. On the ipod itself, Go to settings> general > about. You should be on OS 4.1

    3. Download Greenpois0n RC4. Download here (link provided by tkf1)

    4. Extract. Extract the files from the compressed folder using winrar or 7zip

    5. Connect. Connect your iDevice to your computer, via the USB charging cable, while the Device is powered ON. If it's already connected from the restore then just continue.

6.Close itunes. If itunes opens, close it.

NOTE: If you leave itunes open, Greenpois0n will close it. I have confirmed that Greenpois0n should be ran with iTunes closed.

    7. Run. Run greenpoisOn.exe AS ADMINISTRATOR

8.Turn Off. Turn the Device completely off. Press the power/sleep button and slide to turn off.

9.Prepare. In the GreenpoisOn Program: Click prepare to jailbreak.

    10. Follow the directions in GreenpoisOn.They will be as follows:

-Get ready to start. 3 seconds

-Hold the power/sleep button for 3 seconds.

-While still holding the power button, press down the home
button at the same time. Hold for 10 seconds.

-Release the Power/Sleep button but continue to hold the home
button. Hold for 20 seconds (Should not take entire 20 seconds)
    _______________________________________________________________

11.Jailbreak. On the next screen in GreenpoisOn, click "Jailbreak".

    12. Wait. GreenpoisOn will install and add "loader" to the home screen on your ipod.

13.Install Cydia. Open loader on your Device, and install cydia, This requires wifi. If you dont have reliable wifi, then wait until you do, partial Cydia installs will force you to start this over.

If you need to, go back and sync all your music and data at this time.

That's it! Now you can use Cydia to install tweaks, apps, mods, and themes.

    Good luck

Just keep in mind that its only a 2G MC not a 3G. The 8GB iDevices are now in 4.1 fw. Apple never made a 3G 8GB. I undertsand that they came out in 3.1.x fw before. I dont want to make you feel bad, just dont mix em up.

    I aware.
I was simply referring to the device by both names.
The 2G MC 8GB model is commonly refereed to in layman's terms as a iPod 3G 8GB. Even though its technically a 2nd gen device.
I knew that. I was just including both names to make the guide noob friendly.
The common misconception is primarily the result of the packaging reading "3rd generation" in big letters right on the front of the box.
    Thanks though

You are welcome to try. But I find it easier to simply setup a new ipod. Occasionally settings saved in a previous backup can cause issues. But thats only rarely.

Here's a better one. IN order to get into DFU mode, hold power/home for a couple of seconds until it's black and you hear the sound coming from your computer. When you hear the sound, let go of power.

This jailbreak is actually untethered for all devices.
