Important: I had to redo this tutorial because it previously contained copyrighted material which I was not aware of.

    [PREPARING THE LOGOS]

    1.
Open your 320x480 file in Photoshop.

    2. Making the image transparent: Double-click the Background in the Layers palette, click ok on the new pop-up.

    3. Select the zoom tool and zoom in as much as possible on a BLACK pixel.

    4. Select the eraser and delete 1 pixel, make it black because it will be filled with the color black when you put it on your iPod.

    5.
Go to File > Save for Web & Devices > Pick PNG-24 or PNG-8 from the drop-down, make sure your image is around 300kb.

Things which are not provided but are required for this tutorial:
    - A nor-only untethered ipsw
    - A 2.2.1 ipsw

    1. Download imagetool here: http://www.[PIRACY.mf].com/download.php?tz2nyuzly0z

    2. Extract the folder to your desktop, check to make sure it contains these 5 files:
    imagetool.exe
    zlib1.dll - required by imagetool.exe to function
Make Boot Logo.bat - used to create boot logo
Make Recovery Logo.bat - used to create recovery logo
    Instructions.txt - for info

    3.
Google for, and download a 2.2.1 ipsw and open with... 7zip. Then browse to:
    2.2.1.ipsw\Firmware\all_flash\all_flash.n72ap.production\
Copy over the following files to your Create Logos folder:
    applelogo.s5l8720x.img3
    recoverymode.s5l8720x.img3

    4. Copy over your logo.png and/or recovery.png then run Create Boot Logo.bat and/or Create Recovery Logo.bat, this should create two files:
    newapplelogo.img3
    newrecoverylogo.img3

    5. Google and download a nor-only ipsw, then open the nor-only ipsw with 7zip and browse to: \NOR ONLY Untethered.ipsw\Firmware\all_flash\all_flash.n72ap.production\

    6. Delete:
    applelogo.s5l8720x.img3
    recoverymode.s5l8720x.img3

    copy over: newapplelogo.img3 and newrecoverylogo.img3
    then rename them to:
    applelogo.s5l8720x.img3
    recoverymode.s5l8720x.img3

    7.
Put your iPod in recovery mode by turning it off and unplugging it, then hold HOME while plugging it in, continue to hold it until recovery screen shows.

    8.
Open iTunes, shift+click restore and select the ipsw with your logos in it.

    9.
Your iPod will boot to homescreen after about a 3minute restore.

    Troubleshooting:
If you get error 6, check your .png files, make sure theres at least 1 transparent pixel, if you don't know how to prepare the .png view the video at the top of the thread.

If your logos are over 300kb please see this tutorial:
    http://www.ifans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=158677
If they are over 400kb, unfortunately there is no known fix.

This does not touch your main filesystem, so apps, themes, music, etc will remain on your iPod, all it does is add boot logos.

If you are on verbose mode currently you need to get ibss211.dfu from a 2.1.1 ipsw, and the redsn0w commands which can be found on www.redsn0w.com. Then enter DFU mode and send the 211ibss by entering this command into irecovery:
irecovery -f ibss211.dfu - after this unplug and replug your ipod
Type "irecovery -s" then issue the redsn0w commands and restore from iTunes.

    Making new video right now.

Thank you very much. This'll be helpful cause I change my logo when I get bored of seeing it as the same old one (Probably once every two days ;P).

Good job, you managed to keep all copyrighted files out of your package this time.
However, why do you recommend that you Google a NOR-only IPSW?
This isn't smart and is incredibly lazy; you can make a NOR-only IPSW with a bunch of programs (redTool, or the manual tutorial that I helped seang5041 with a couple days ago).

The point for step 3 is that you need
    applelogo.s5l8720x.img3
    recoverymode.s5l8720x.img3

from 2.2.1 ipsw inside your Create Logos folder.

You get a black screen because you didn't make your logo correctly. You need one transparent pixel, and make sure its less then 300kb, make sure its around 200kb to be safe.

I will update the thread on how to create your own nor-only ipsw.

Really? Point them out and tell me how they're the same.

I don't know if I'll bother changing my recovery logo, as I'll rarely see it now that we have untethered. I already have my boot logo changed, however.

yea i have already made the logo with more than 1 transparent pixel, and the image less than 100kb. So maybe its just because i dont have the 2.2.1 firmware stuff in there?
