    The host name is your ip adress, to find that...on your ipod go to settings, wifi, and click the little blue arrow to the right of the network you are connected to...then the first string of numbers is your ip adress..should start out like 192.168

    username: root
    password: alpine

    Thanks for this, worked on meh 2g :)

    First time i could get the slidertext option in winterboard but it wouldn't work. Even though i had renamed the notepad document and taken off the .txt when i put it onto my ipod via SSH it went back on again so i had to rename it again there :p

    Thanks XD

    Thanks so much! I put "Slide to the right!" because when I slide the slider, it says Slide to the right! from the cha cha slide song :p

    whoa, I said slide 5 times in one sentence.

    Nice and simple tutorial ! Thanks !
    At first it wasn't working because for me it was a little tricky :p My 1ยบ gen ipod is in English BUT the region format is in portuguese (i'm from portugal yes xD) and at the beginning i put the folder with the name "en.lproj" and it didn't worked and all was in the right place and then i put it in "pt.lproj" and it worked !
    xjamesd93, i think you could post a little note about what i said now (if you want xD) so that if anyone have the same problem than me know how to resolve it

    Thanks again for the great tutorial ;)

    It was a little frustrating, but I eventually got it. I forgot to capitalize the B in SpringBoard at first.

    Did you know you can also use this method to rename apps?

    Instead of SpringBoard.strings, make another file in that same folder (en.lproj) called LocalizedApplicationNames.strings

    Content of that file should be like this:

    "com.apple.mobilemail" = "E-Mail";
    "com.apple.Maps" = "Google Maps";
    "com.mxweas.MxTube" = "YouTube";
    "com.apple.mobilesafari" = "Firefox";
    "com.zodttd.gpSPhone" = "GBA";

    [you need the internal name of the apps; usually you can find it in the info.plist without reformating it as XML]
