Well, like a lot of people I didn't like 3.0 and like most others had an incredibly hard time downgrading it.

    First off, What you'll need:

    iTunes - 8.0.0.35(What I used)
QuickTime - 7.55(Couldn't open the old iTunes without it)
A PC without iTunes or QuickTime installed(Recommended but not required)
    2.2.1 IPSW(Duh)
    iPod Touch 1G
    QuickPwn 2.2.5

Step 1. If you have iTunes and QuickTime installed move your iTunes folder(Usually in the Music folder) to someplace safe and then uninstall iTunes and Quicktime.(If your PC doesn't have either installed Skip to step 2)

Step 2. Download the old iTunes and QuickTime and install them both.

    Step 3. Restart the computer

Step 4. Open iTunes and plug in your Touch. Then, put your iPod into DFU mode and shift click restore to the downloaded 2.2.1 IPSW. It should restore now back to 2.2.1

Step 5. Wait for it to boot and jailbreak it with QuickPwn(Optional)

Step 6. Uninstall the old iTunes and QuickTime and reinstall the original version you had.

Step 7. Before opening iTunes move the "iTunes" folder back to the original location it was in.

Step 8. Open iTunes and resync your ipod and enjoy.

Credits go to: UKSGreen(for giving me the idea to try an older iTunes)

P.S. I am not responsible if you screw up your iPod...This is just what I did and it worked for me

    Phail!
On any version of itunes dfu and shift|cmd restore to 2.2.1 should work. If it is not working, itunes re-install should do the job!!

people seem to be making this extremely convoluted...

    dfu... cmd+restore (ipod 2.2.1_restore.ipsw)

    bingo...tried on 8+8.2

well for some reason not every's downgrade goes as smoothly as yours did. A lot of people have been talkin about the 1600 error and wasn't able to downgrade(me being one of them) so i decided to post what allowed me to downgrade my iPod.

i finally got it to work.

i went on my dad's computer (he doesn't have an ipod so he didn't have itunes installed) installed it (the newest version) and did the restore. it worked.
