I have seen some complicated tuts, well I wouldn't say complicated just doing more work then is necessary, so I decided to make this one. This is a short and sweet tutorial, so I will be as vague as possible, this tutorial is not for noobies who don't know the lingo.

    SSH into iPod

    Go to:

    /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/English.lproj/SpringBoard.strings

Copy the file SpringBoard.strings to desktop.

Go to: http://iappcat.com/plist/bin2xml and browse for the file just added to desktop and click convert.

Save converted file to the desktop and open with notepad. (file now called xml.plist)

Once file is opened, press Ctrl + F and search "slide to unlock" (with out the quotes)

Change "slide to unlock" to a phrase of your choice. Note "slide to unlock" should be between

    <string> </string>

Save the file and close the window.

Go again to: http://iappcat.com/plist/bin2xml and browse for the file just saved and click convert.

Save converted file to desktop.(File now called binary.plist)

    SSH into iPod

    /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/English.lproj/

Add the binary.plist file and delete or backup the old SpringBoard.strings file. Then rename binary.plist to SpringBoard.strings.

Close out of WinSCP or other SSH program and respring your iPod!

    DONE!

This is somewhat permanent until you update or replace the new SpringBoard.strings file with the old.

Why not plutil instead of using bin2xml?

No need to convert it either way.
