As most users of the iPad know, Apple has decided not to ship the iPad with the Weather, Calculator, Stocks, Voice Memos, or Compass app. Since the iPad can use all of these, here's a quick list to help you out:

    Bloomberg for iPad
    [iTunes Link--Free]

This handy, free app will replace the iPhone's Stock app, offering tons of features, from company info, to data, charts, and graphs galore. Exactly what anyone interested in the Stock Market needs.

    Weather Channel Max for iPad
    [iTunes Link--Free]
Thanks to Toyota, this app is free for a limited time, so grab it while you can! While this needs no explanation, this app provides video, radar, forecasts, and more.

    Voice Memos for iPad
    [iTunes Link--Free]
Aptly titled, this app is an almost perfect replica of the original iPhone/iPod touch Voice Memos app. While support for emailing Voice Memos will cost you $0.99, all the basic features are included free of charge.

    PCalc Lite or PCalc
    [PCalc Lite--Free] [PCalc--$9.99]
These two calculators are amongst the best in the App Store, and are available for the iPad. Making the iPhone Calculator look anemic in the features department, they both feature themes, optional RPN mode, unit conversions, multiple undo/redo, and more in the paid version.

Compass HD + Vector Magnetometer / Gravitometer
    [iTunes Link--Free]
This app is probably best fitted towards pilots/aeronautic enthusiasts, with all of its features. However, it does have a fairly basic compass, with many different options to toggle on/off.

While all these apps are free, they may go up in cost at any time, so get them while you can! Also, every app but the Clock app has a replacement. Anyone got any suggestions for the clock app replacement? Or do you think it is even necessary?

Hopefully Apple at least puts them on the App Store for people to download.

Apple will most likely add those missing features on future fw releases...

Yeah, I'd hope that they would...

    Sorry, I didn't know that (I don't have a 3G)

But still, a dedicated, easy to reach, compass app.

Probably. Maybe Apple just didn't have time to port these, so they focused on other areas?

Well yeah. A compass on any type of phone is gimmicky

    Apple made it that way.

But still, there are apps that use the compass.

I can't for the life of me figure out why there was no calculator or voice memos.

Weather, Compass and Stocks, I understand.

Weather: use a web browser, they probably though MobileSafari for iPad was so amazing that they could just do weather from that
    Stocks: a very underused app...
Compass: can you imagine staring at a compass on a 9.7inch screen?
