I know a few people beside myself have had this problem. Here's the fix

Go to applications/mobilemail.app set it to 755 if its not already.

Now inside of mobilemail.app change the mobileMail & Pkginfo to 755 and do the same for info.plist

Now go to mobile/library/mail change it to 755 inside you should see a folder that looks like your email address change that and envelope & accounts.plist to 755

Now open the folder that looks like your email address and change everything in there to 755 mainly the mboxCache.plist

Now go to mail if it still crashes go to prefrences mail and try to erase or create an acount if it dosent crash your gravy. If it does still crash restart you iPod/iPhone.

If all els fails change them all to 777 and restart.

Hope I helped someone. If I did +REP would be nice.

Yep, i have this problem too and nothing -even none of the above mentioned- has helped so far. My Touch still refuses to remember the password.
    Sad, isn't it?

This is a "for what it's worth" post. I have pwned 2 ipods and 1 iphone. After
restoring with the custom ipsw, the first thing I did was to refresh the installer. Next, installed Cydia. After the Cydia installation, I install openssh and terminal from Cydia. Everything has worked as advertised without doing anything else.
Since the BSD is built into Cydia, you do not want to install the BSD in the original installer. It will break cydia. Should you have a program that squawks about no BSD, then install the "fake BSD"

Could it be that Cydia makes all necessary links?

Theres no links. the problem is the permissions get changed on mail making it crash for some people after installing the FW.

I would be curious to know if BSD subsystem was causing the problem. The way to know would be to check out mail before installing anything.

For those who are interested in some short comings of BSD this is an interesting read.
