On CNET, there is a nice tutorial that shows you how to turn your laptop into a wifi hotspot, basically using it like a router so that you can broadcast wifi around you even though you use a wired connection, such as an ethernet cable.

    http://www.cnettv.com/9742-1_53-28619.html?hhTest=1

I live in a dorm which doesn't get wifi so this is what i have to use if I want to get wireless access on another laptop. I followed the instructions exactly and repeated the process several times. What I found was: I was able to create a new wireless network which my roommate's laptop was able to recognize and connect to. Except when she tried to surf the internet with this connection, it DID NOT work. I don't know why.

Now, the real reason why I'm doing this is so that I can use the Wi-fi to connect my iPod to the internet. Please don't direct me towards this link: http://www.ifans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39974
I have already seen it and it's the same process that I am presenting above.

Okay. So I was wondering if someone might know why this method is not working for me. Or, if you could actually try this method out for yourself and let me know if it works for you, that would also be great.

    Thanks so much in advance.

Some school networks are designed specifically not to allow stuff like this. Tho i am almost sure that their network settings would have no effect by the point your pc is broadcasting. But if i were you i would just buy a cheap wifi router.
