I just got a 32gb 2nd generation iPod Touch and the darned thing isn't going into horizontal view when I rotate it on its side. Am I missing something or is this thing just defective?

For example, when I'm viewing my music list and I rotate it, it doesn't go into that nifty horizontal view mode when you can flip through the album covers. Also, even when I go into the Safari application, I turn the ipod on its side and it doesn't initate the horizontal view either.

The display mode will only turn into horizontal in certain app, so to make sure tilt your IPod touch when you are on the now playing menu. Normally it will go to the cover flow .

It can't be software related. Not settings anyway.

Nothing you can do to activate it.

Your acceloremeter or the accelerometer coding is screwed up.

just posted coz i've got a similar problem as you. If it is the accelerometer coding, is there a way of fixing this?

I've updated to 2.2 firmware which is the latest and there's been no change

It can't be software... It's got to be hardware issues.

I'd ring Apple if I were you - Try and get a replacement as soon as you can?

something when i am in safari and want to use the horizontal mode, the ipod would not go into that mode, so what i did was, make the page small or big until it went into horizontal mode, or jot the ipod until it went into horizontal on safari.
