So I jailbroke my 32gb 3g ipod touch, but heard this thing called SSH is a pain in the ass for jailbroken devices. Since there's no option in the settings menu to turn off SSH I decided to install sbsettings and OpenSSH so I could turn SSH off. But now everytime I start up my iPod, SSH keeps turning itself on and it's very annoying since I don't even use it.

So is ssh really important, what's it used for anyway? And how can I turn it off permanently.

You activate SSH when you install OpenSSH... without that app you don't have SSH enabled... solution is to uninstall OpenSSH and you'll no longer have the SSH service installed.

And to note that SSH turns on by default when you start your device to allow you the option to SSH and fix stuff if you crash to a permanent boot loop, SWOD or other fatal problem.

thank you both for the quick answers, I'll uninstall OpenSSH then since I don't use it anyway.

    Thanks!
