I use the ipod touch now for quite a while. there is some situations, where this sensor is more than annoying.

like when a picture was taken in vertical format and than u turn the screen to view it in full size, the ipod turns it again so u still view at it in a annoying view, or like when u surf around with safari its sometimes annoying when u move arround.

so, is there a chance where u can make a app like a freeze button for the accelerator to fix the screen position.

Well, if you want the screen to stay widescreen, then tilt the iPod so that the top of it (where the power button is) is a bit lower than the other end. Since you cannot rotate the screen so it is completely upside down, it will stay widescreen.

Another solution is to lay the device flat on a table.

^^ That only works in safari, pictures rotate all round.

I actually also find the accelerometer really annoying in safari. Like if I'm lying on the couch and reading something off of a blog, I like it to be vertical but cuz I'm lying down it makes it really easy to accidentally rotate it to horizontal. The whole thing is just frustrating sometimes.

It would be really cool if somebody just made an advanced preferences package that added an on/off switch for the accelerometer.

I have this problem too. Like when listening to music, and then laying down on the couch. It becomes quite bothersome at times.

i always have issues with it when i'm looking at photos. if i have a pic that i forgot to rotate before i put it on my ipod, it's annoying cause i can't just rotate my ipod, because then the picture will rotate too and it won't fix my problem at all. i generally like to use photoboard to view my photos because of this.

Totally agree with you. Couldn't have said it better myself.
