Im trying to find an app the will display numbers above the app such as BeeJive. I tried notifier, but all it does is show a litttle icon at the top of the screen, and not a number above the app.

The number above the app happens without any extra software, like on mail if you have any new emails. Try quitting beejive when you have messages in a convo which you haven't read, there will be number on the corner of the app. Unless you want another number above it as well? :/

    It's more then that

it will do what you discribed.

turn your iPod so it's vertical, then select the app you wish and hit badge

No, I want the number to appear automatically without me checking because its really annoying to not know when you get one

Well that's nothing to do with the number above, that's to do with keeping the app running so it can check. To do that, you need backgrounder. However, apps will randomly shut as soon as the iPod feels it's too low on memory, so you can't rely on it. Nor should you rely on it, because you'll use a load of CPU for stuff like BeeJive.

Tl;dr, you want backgrounder but it's not perfect.

Edit: Also, I would use status notifier in combination with this so that you can see that you have a new message whilst in another app. But again, if you're opening other apps the iPod will soon likely end the ones you've set to run in the background.

Apple doesn't allow apps to run in the background, either get insomnia or backgrounder and that should help. If your not jailbroken then theres nothing you can do.
