Hello everyone! I hope you can help me, I sure am eager to get re-jailbroken.

First and foremost, I have an un-jailbroken iPod Touch 3.1.1 2nd gen. I have OS X Snow Leopard.

So, I've gone through these following steps, and I am receiving some problems.

    I have done the following:
    • I downloaded and downgraded from iTunes 9.0.1 to iTunes 8.2.
    • I have an iPod Touch 3.0 ipsw, and an iPod Touch 3.1 ipsw

Now, when I put my iPod Touch into DFU, and alt-click "Restore", and then find the 3.0 firmware, I get "error 20", this firmware does not work.

What's up, doc? Am I doing something wrong? I just want to downgrade to 3.0

    Thanks everyone!

Try putting it in restore mode (turn it off and hold home while plugging it in) and shift-restore that way.

in order to downgrade from 3.1 to 3.0 you have to install itunes 8.2 and download the 3.0 firmware then do the shift restore method in dfu mode. reason is because itunes now has a different method of updating your hardware so that you cant downgrade or jailbreak. only thing is if you dont upgrade you cant download apps from the app store. which is a necesity even though we get everything from cydia. but thanks to the devteam our troubles are over. 3.1 can be jailbroken if you have mac os x using the pwnage tool 3.1.3 if you dont just follow these instructions

Thanks, but 2nd gen cannot be clean and cut jailbroken with pwnage tool 3.1.3, you have to downgrade to 3.0 firmware first, and that's my problem, I cannot downgrade to 3.0 because of iTunes errors. I'm trying to troubleshoot what "error 20" means, and why I cannot downgrade in DFU mode. I do have iTunes 8.2, like I said earlier.

well im sure is because your iPod is "3g", if your iPod is new and came with the 3.1 or 3.1.1 already installed is 3g and can't be downgraded

That's a negatory, we both have 2nd gens, who, at one point, had 3.0 on them.
