Alright, I'll give you all the information I have about my iPod touch, just in case the problem is caused by ANY of these: it is a iPod touch 2G that hasn't been jailbroken with 2.2.1 software and on iTunes I have set it to manually manage my iPod instead of sync.

Now, I've tried all the guides, YouTube videos and the DFU helper and so far, nothing is working - even if I get the timing EXACTLY right (by following video tutorials second by second).

What happens is I hold down both power and home button for 10 seconds, but once I let go of the power button and am at the step of only holding the home button, the Apple logo will show and then it will continue to normal recovery mode.

    What am I doing wrong?!
    Thanks in advannce...

The screen just doesn't stay black, it'll just show the Apple logo after one second...

have you used a stopwatch/timer when doing it, because counting it by yourself can be REALLY inaccurate

Yup, I've used the DFU helper on the Voltage jailbreaker.

The Apple logo sometimes shows up even before the 10 seconds are up, but even if I count to for example 8 seconds and then left go of the power button, the Apple logo will proceed to show :S

I'm afraid so. I've been trying for literally about 2 hours and a half now. I have the technique all sussed out. I was wondering if there was something I was missing, that's why I've posted on the forum.

    Screw the timer.

Hold down home and power until screen goes black.
When screen goes black, wait like 1 second before going to power button only.

    * When the screen goes black, you should see pixels clearing off the screen, after most of them have cleared... move on.

why do you need DFU mode? Are you trying to jailbreak?

Also, add your device to your profile, that way you do not need to keep writing it out in new threads

I've tried that way. The screen goes black, I'll immediately switch to just the home button and then the Apple logo will appear and then if I keep holding the home button it'll go to normal recovery mode.

Yeah, I'm trying to jailbreak my iPod. I'm just one step away, it's so frustrating! Also, I think my iPod is on my profile, hopefully?
