Transparency

    How do i make a selection "transparent"

    also, how do i make a selection "translucent"?

    In the layers dialogue, use the slider to alter the overall opacity.

    how do i go about changing the opacity?

    There are lots of ways to do it... but that ones the easiest. Just make sure the thing you want translucent is isolated on a single layer so it doesn't affect the rest of the design.

    Normally, I select the object I want translucent using any one of the selection tools (I mainly use a magic wand tool or pen tool + convert to selection), make the eraser really big, change opacity and apply to area I want.

    Otherwise, I use a layer mask, added from the layer mask dialogue + shade in grey the bits I want semi transparent.
