After reading terrible iTunes reviews of the many language translating applications in the App Store, I'm starting to get a little disheartened. Can anyone recommend a decent one? I would prefer as many languages supported as possible, but Spanish, German, French, and Italian are musts.

    Thanks for any help.

I'm not impressed with Google's translator. I was hoping there might be something a little better.

Well, if you want a specific language, say, for a language class, Ultralingua is the best. I have Ultralingua Spanish-English translator is the best thing ever. It translates words, numbers (as in, tells you how to say a number such as 1000 as "un mil"), pronunciation, conjugation, etc. It's amazing. They have English to Spanish, Portuguese, german, french, italian, and more. Plus they have Spanish to french etc. They are priced at like $18, but it's WELL worth it. You'd pay that much on any dictionary book.

A friend showed me the Spanish-English version, and I was rather impressed compared to other apps available. I would gladly purchase one for $17.99, but I would like it to offer more than one language.

Why? what are you using it for that you need like 6 languages?

I'll be studying abroad in Europe this coming year and plan to travel a little while I'm there. I don't expect an iPhone app to teach me to speak fluently in any language, only to assist in a situation in which I may need it.

Aha. Well I would primarily look for French and German.

Does Ultralingua require an internet connection?
