Alright, I've got this problem others seem to be having. I used WinPwn 2.5 to make a 2.0.1 custom firmware, tried to restore it, gives me either a "Cannot be restored, unknown error etc. 1601, 1602, or 13" error. I have tried...

    • Entering recovery mode.
    • Entering DFU mode.
    • Trying a different USB port.
    • Creating a new Windows account.
    • Restarting PC.
    • Restoring to unmodified 2.0.1, 2.0.0, 1.1.4 and 1.1.1 firmwares.
    • Left iPod off for 30 minutes.
    • Deleting files from Device Support.
    • Restarting the iPod in patterns.
    • Reinstalling iTunes.

... over the course of about 8 hours, and it STILL will not restore. I can't boot it up normally, it goes straight to recovery mode.

I'm on Windows XP Home SP2, iTunes 7.7.0.43, 900MB of free disk space, and 768MB of RAM. Is there ANYTHING else I can try short of buying a new touch?

Delete any files in %APPDATA%\Apple Computer\iTunes\Device Support, pwn iTunes, enter DFU mode again and restore to a custom firmware.

Download a 2.0.1 firmware from google if you dont already have one, sorry if saying this is against the forum rules.
Then Shift + Click restore and choose the firmware.
    This should work.

Tried those. Didn't work. Going to try to uninstall and reinstall iTunes...

    Hey,

I had the same problem but then I connected it to another computer and restored it from there and it worked perfectly. It wouldn't even connect to iTunes on my computer.
