    Hello,

I'm trying to fix up my brothers Ipod Touch that he bought used off a friend at his military base. He tried to have somebody else jailbreak it, and I'm assuming that he screwed it up there somehow and now its bugged.

When you turn it on I get the 'connect to itunes' screen, when I connect it says that the ipod is in recovery mode, when I try to run the recovery it comes up saying Error 6.

Any idea how I can get this thing back running? I'm fairly sure its a gen 3.

Try to take it to Apple, Jailbreaking do not yet work for the 3rd Gen iTouch.

Fairly sure its gen 3, its got a curved back, external speaker and audio controls on the side, and 2 lines of text under the capacity etching on the back.

Wow, I didn't even see that in your original post lol. Anyways, download blackra1n and when you get to the 'Connect to iTunes' screen, run blackra1n and 'make it ra1n'. I'm not sure if it'll work, but give it a try.

As a last option you could try to make a DFU restore.
This fixes nearly every iPod with errors, that are not Hardware related.

    DFU (recovery) mode.
    It's very easy.
Connect the iPod up to your computer.
Next, simultaneously hold down the Power button and Home key for 10 seconds.
Once your computer makes the noise, release the Power key and remain holding the home key until your computer makes another noise.
Next, open iTunes if it's not already.
It will go onto a screen that has a restore button. Click Restore, and follow your prompts on the screen.

This will return your iPod back to factory settings, and make it un-jailbroken.
