When you are in 1.1.2 with a jailbroken ipod, have you tried changing the restrictions (i forget the name) from 755 to something different, so then it would not be able to get erased? When i mean that, i mean so the files become read-only w

That's a good point apacheo, how exactly does the upgrade remove the device nodes? you may be right. It may look for the "disk" file name, and remove it. I look forward to you trying it out :)

Just FYI in advance, this is what OkToPrep was:
    mknod disk c 14 1

It was obviously a special character file, unfortunately, I don't know what 14 and 1 are.
I assume access points, 14 being Media and 1 being private?
Maybe these values have changed too.

    quick question

the com.apple.itunes lock_sync file is visible in total commander.
any chance just deleting it wouldn't lock the sync in itunes??
sry but i'm kinda new to the technical details of the touch.

The 'disk' file isn't actually a file at all - its a device node. Long story short, it gave file system access to the ram disk without needing access to /

I did a restore when I upgraded to 1.1.3, so obviously the media partition was wiped as well.

Has anyone with a 1.1.2 jailbroken touch tried the 1.1.3 update, and had a look with iPhuc to see whats in the com.apple.afc file listing? Is 'disk' still there??

I know that, it's a character special file created by mknod though.
    See here.

Sorry I read special character file - not character special file - and my frazzled brain was too slow to make the connection :)
