since the first 2.x jailbreak it seems that more and more apps contain app store advertisements... with some apps this is okay for instance quickgold displays adds in the list plane but they disapear when you begin typing. but some apps display them all the time and this is a problem because the iPods screen has limited space to display things even without the adds... what's the deal, is apple paying jailbroken software to advertise the app store?? doesn't seem like somethig apple would do.

It's got nothing to do with Apple, it's to help developers subsidise costs.

Either ads, or you pay for it, your choice.

I agree, ads suck... We already see a lot of ads when we try to install anything, now having apps connect to the internet to retrieve ads? If they want to get money out of it, they could use a license system, instead of filling us with ads and not letting us remove them...

At least the guys that made quickgold are cool enough to try to make them "non intrusive", and they tell you so in the changelog. Erica Sadun updates her apps, adds ads, and the changelog says "minor bug fixes", she could be honest and let people decide if they will update the apps. That's really cheap.

Funny thing is, even some App Store apps, which you pay for, have ads.

    Yeah.

iPhone developers have gone admad because of the admob network. In every platform you will have a fair share of freeware, payware and adware. On iPhone its either adware or payware. If its freeware you can be sure it will have ads very soon.

Something like Cycorder having ads is ok, however something like Quickgold which one uses for barely a second at a time and many times to launch apps having ads is seriously distracting and intrusive.

Since some people are quick to talk about supporting developers obviously everyone appreciates the work they do and support them by either donating, buying the software or having the ads in nearly all jailbroken software with no complaints. The large number of jailbroken users also make ads a useful revenue source for developers so its not a one way street. Its ONLY when it becomes overdone and intrusive that people notice and have issues.

What's wrong in having freeware sometimes like Quicksilver or launchy is? Imagine if Quicksilver or Launchy on mac or pc has ads, who would use them?
