I have an iPod Touch 2nd gen with 2.2.1
I want to upgrade to 3.0 and then jailbreak it.
Should I do it, wait for upgrades, or forget about it?

    Thanks

Pretty much everybody will tell you to.

Upgrade to 3.0 and get redsn0w 0.7 and jailbreak it

    Just do it.
It's not like anything bad is going to happen to your iPod. Unless you mess up the jailbreak.
So do it before you put your Music and Apps back onto your iPod.

Also, make sure you do a clean restore to 3.0 before attempting the jailbreak.

    Pros:
-Root access to your device, allows you to customize nearly anything.
-Themes and other things that you do customize make your device unique.
-Lots and lots of third party apps available from Cydia.

    Cons:
    -None.

Dunno, looks pretty one-sided to me.
    Just do it man.

Actually, if you install the wrong things it can totally kill your battery. You can also install a bad app that will crash your iPod.

    Wow, are you serious?
    It enables EVERYTHING.
It allows you to do things to it you didn't even think was possible.
Theming, customizing is just the beginning. Emulators, third party apps, what more could possibly be "decent" enough?
@TS, do it man, you won't lose anything and will gain a lot.

There are also ways to retain your battery life. As for installing things that will crash your iPod, there's nothing the three R's can't fix. Respring, reboot, restore.

You won't know how amazing jailbreak is until you actually do it, there's not much anyone can tell you to convince you.

There's some bugs, no biggy. Some apps from cydia might not work, and may crash your IPT, but thats about all.
