I have to say that all this chaos is stupid, but there you go, I suppose alot of people are very 'excited' by the events of the 9th.

    Anyway, here are the facts:

    • Geohot had supposedly left the jailbreaking scene months ago
    • Pod2g recently found the SHAtter exploit
    • Chronic dev team then created 'greenpois0n' and were ready for release at 10:10:10 10/10/10
    • Geohot then out of nowhere releases 'limera1n' with supposedly 6 months of development
    • Geohot used the code initially without permission from comex to make it untethered
    • Comex then approved this, but gave him a newer version- resulting in 'limera1n beta 2'
    • Chronic Dev Team then decieded on three posibillities:
      1. Give up on greenpois0n
      2. Implement Geohot's limera1n exploit, and save SHAtter for the future
      3. Burn SHAtter
    • Thankfully they chose number 2
    • They then decided to attempt a release on the 10th with the newer version, using the limera1n exploit.
    • This is now what they plan to do, allthough the ETA is currently unknown.

Many people believe that what Geohot did was totally down to egotism. However there was actually more behind it. He did what he did to save SHAtter for future devices, which is a sensible thing to do. He also did it in favour of those 3rd gen device users; because without limera1n they would have to wait for comex's new userland jailbreak, which had not even been started, however it is now irrelevant. It is fair to say that Geohot got the timing wrong, but did he? According to his site its been 6 months in the making, whereas greenpois0n has had less than a month. And this is what Geohot does. He has allways done it; he gives no word of a release date, let alone the fact that he is even working on it, and then out of no where he will release. Sure it is unstable and arguably not ready, but then we would of lost SHAtter otherwise. He also fixed everything within hours, there are now few bugs, and only one or two devices arn't supported. If your a first gen user then you've got nothing to complain about, you have complete jailbreaks available for every version, and no SHSH etc to worry about.

But back to Geohots method of just keeping quiet, then a big release is how it should be. Sure it is fun to check twitter and see their progress every step of the way, but then your gonna get seriously bugged by users asking stupid questions. It also then give Dev Team etc grief in that they'll get a million questions regarding unlocks.

    So whats next?

Now we wait for pwnage tool to arrive and redsn0w etc, and then eventually ultrasn0w. In case you weren't aware sherif_hashim and ClaytonBraasch are both working on exploiting the new BB.

So there we are, a load of nonsense associated with another release, but hopefully this can explain everything a little better.

Haha, but other than that little error, I completely agree.

The CDT would've implemented geohot's exploit if they had time, but what screwed them in the end was their own ETA.
