I'm about to purchase my first itouch and am wondering if I would be better served to spend the same $200 and get a 2nd gen refurb from Apple with 16GB rather than the new 3gen with 8GB.

It seems the new 8 GB 3rd gen Itouch has met with lukewarm reviews both here and elsewhere, and there doesn't seem to be any appreciable difference between the two.

    Thoughts please

    thanks

there is no 3g 8gb touch. it's the same thing as the 2g, with a cheaper price.

so i'd go for the 16gb refurb.

Yeah for sure the 16 gbs... Or scratch out the extra cash for a 32 gb model, I hear they're pretty sweet.

16GB refurb. 8 GB makes no sense.

16GB 2nd Gen Refurb is the best value by far.

You should keep in mind that refurbed products aren't always up to par.... for example:
I sent my iPod touch in because of speaker issues and got a new refurbed one back in the mail, but it had some minor scratches on the chrome back and also the biggest pet peeve for me was the power button. It didn't stick out as much as my old one and it felt horrible when i pressed it. It didn't have that distinct click and sometimes I would press the power button and I couldn't feel any click so I thought I didn't press it properly but it turns out I did press it. It almost feels "squishy" because it doesn't have that "click" when you press it. Also one minor thing is that the home button is stuck out about half a mm and it feels kind of awkward when I pass my hand over the screen and I can feel the sharp outcrop of the home button.

Go for 16GB ... BUT ... if you have the patience to save up more $, go for the 32GB model.
