I am planning on getting a samsung vibrant with tmobile and while checking the coverage I noticed a lot of Michigan was covered by "partner web" I did a little looking up and it sounds like tmobile phones can run on some other carriers towers automatically and for no extra cost, is this correct?

I'm not in Michigan, but in my area that's what happens some providers lease equipment from other providers. If I were you, I'd check and double-check and read that contract. Ask questions too, but make sure whatever they tell you is in your contract

I wouldn't be worried unless the carrier displayed on your phone changes to another one.

My iPhone changed to Rogers from AT&T when I went to Canada.
    I also received a text saying 1MB = $15.36. Ouch.

If you're that worried, call T-Mobile.

Carriers will make agreements with other carriers to "share" cell towers.
That way one doesn't have to invest in a cell tower, which takes a lot of money and time.
It also helps expand their network.
