I know there have been question on this in the past, but none are not what I want. I haven't used my iPhone 3G ever since about June when I ripped the LCD ribbons. Monday I finally ordered a new LCD, changed it and everything went ok.
Now my phone is on 3.1.3 jailbroken. When I used TinyUmbrella last night it said I had SHSH files on file for 3.1.3, 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2 and 4.1. How is this possible when I never saved any blobs before?
Since it says it has blobs for 3.1.3 I plan on restoring to it. My main reason is the unlock. Once I update to 4.1 I lose it. Too preserve the BB TinyUmbrella only works with th iPhone 4.

Were you jailbroken? And did you press the "Make My Life Easier Button" in Cydia?
    If so, then thats why

Yes and Yes, but I thought that was only if you launch cydia and the phone is actually on. But I guess not.
So I'm guessing it is safe to restore to 3.1.3 since I have the blobs?

If you have the blobs then you should be okay.
    Download the desired firmware.
Run the tss server and DFU restore.
But why are you restoreing to 3.1.3. The new jailbreaks out on 4.1 cover almost every device

I know it does, but I kinda miss the old days with winterboard and the black homescreen. So I'm keeping this device on 3.1.3.

Btw.. Do I have to edit the host files for iTunes when using TinyUmbrella? I know I do if using cydia's server

No, Tinyumbrella does the host editing for you.

I will also restore to 3.1.3 because I have the shsh's for it, but I need to find a way to hacktivate it.

Use the latest pwnagetool to put your device into DFU mode (http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/1359246784/20102010-event). Then using iTunes flash a custom 3.1.3 firmware made with an older version of pwnagetool. Have not tried it, but the implementation of limerain in the latest pwnagetool should disable the sig checks for the restore process.
