and wallah the linux os released for the ipod/iphone.The estimated time said to be for its arrival is around 2 months if continued by current progress...So the reason for this thread....
1.I would like to hear it from the official dev for linux on how long it will take to arrive?
2.How much space it will occupy for the OS?
3.Will ipod touch 2g be supported for this?
4.What more can we expect from Linux?

    1. Not known yet. They haven't commented on any length of time.

    2. Won't know how much space it will occupy until the final version is released or the iphonelinux group tells us beforehand.

    3. Unless the iPhone Dev Team gets around to jailbreaking the 2nd-gen iPod touch, no.

    4. The iphonelinux group wants to have:

    - Write support for the NAND
    - Wireless networking
    - Touchscreen
    - Sound
    - Accelerometer
    - Baseband support

thats like having a computer with 4gb or memory, but disabling 3.5 gb
if you have the hardware, then use it.
im sure if it was ported, you could enable and disable it in settings.

i hope they can get a version of linux with a GUI. Ive heard that devices like the pandora can run xubuntu, which is more powerful than the iphone, regardless, that leads me to believe that it is possible for a better than command prompt linux to be made/ported for the iphone.

Prepare to wait, if you're lucky, several months. If not, several Years. Hell, actually, pray no one drops it and it actually goes more than just the Kernel.

more than likely they will port chrome when they are ready for a GUI, since it is heavily based on Linux already, and it is open source. Saves them a ton of work from not having to build a GUI from scratch and gives us a usable GUI.
