What? How is the surface (and W8) confusing in any way? It seems almost childishly simplistic.

Exactly! Everything is pretty simple. You have your tiles. You have the desktop. You have the App Store and you have your gestures. How in the world could it be confusing?

'Sup Tim? You jelly cuz' the Surface's gonna get moar money than your iPad Mini? LOL on you.

Do people never learn? Even professionals? EVERY SINGLE OS IS CONFUSING WHEN YOU RUN IT FOR THE FIRST TIME!
I was freaking lost whe I first used Mac OSX, I was freaking lost when I first used Windows, I was freaking lost when I first used Linux, etcetera.
There's no such thing as simple perfection, there's no such thing as an easy start, every single thing has to be learnt, regardless of how many "startup steps" you follow, you are never gonna find something that is simple, easy, because there's that thing that always brings blows to your brain.

I don't think Windows 8 as an OS is all too confusing, it's far more like iOS than anything Microsoft has ever made -- even on the desktop. What's confusing is that Microsoft hasn't made it clear to the general public what they will be getting when they buy a surface with Windows RT, buy a Lenovo ThinkPad 2 with Windows 8, or when they simply upgrade their PC to Windows 8 Pro. All of the versions of Windows 8 look the same -- even Windows Phone 8 looks barely different than Windows 8 Pro's start menu. But all of these things are going to offer different experiences, and I don't think customers can tell.

Apple has its desktop platform -- Mac OS X -- and its mobile platform -- iOS. While they are guilty of trying to blend these experiences as well (see: Mac App Store and Launchpad,) they have not made it confusing for customers. It has always been very clear the difference between OS X and iOS. Microsoft hasn't made enough effort to educate the average John Doe on what his new $499 "Windows 8" Surface tablet isn't capable of. For example, the fact that Windows RT will not run any normal x86 software (besides the pre-packaged Office Suite) and will only run apps downloaded from the -- nearly empty -- Windows Store.

Windows 8 is confusing, though. The Metro interface is simple, until you start using it. The desktop has never been simple, but it's familiar because of years and years of use.

    Combined, well.
