No offense, but the way you are explaining it is as if you haven't seen it before.
This is normally assumed as you stole the iPod, as others have and ask the same question.

I also do not like to be the one to stereotype, but your post count also doesn't show you to be an honest person (yet, at least). The fact that you said you "think" you locked yourself out doesn't make it any better.

You should know the Pass Code, since it is asking you for the one you set- After all it is your iPod, isn't it?...

Anyways, if you can't get into it and 'forgot' the Pass Code, do a DFU Restore.

    Do not restore!

I had the same problem with some simple steps, however it took me about half an hour to understand what was causing it.

I tried to switch off autolock in sbsettings and was kicked to the lock screen. When unlocking, the springboard appeared for a millisec and then it immediately locked again. The problem was that the variable controlling the time until the iPod is automatically locked was set to 0 in the com.apple.springboard.plist file.

To fix this, SSH into the iPod, then

    cd /private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences/
    chmod u+w com.apple.springboard.plist
    nano com.apple.springboard.plist

Change 'SBAutoLockTime' to 60, save with ctrl+x and reboot the iPod.

This happened to me, but not the same way, i set the password then forgot it, now i have to download a 270 meg file with my terrible broken dial up ( one kilibyte per second ) so I recomend you don't use passwords, ever.

I have a password on every stock app...
Don't forget it, and you're fine.
