I'm going to start off this guide by saying that the general goal is to prevent useless duplicate threads with the same "How do I..." questions. Please PM me if you have an addition to this guide. I will reserve a lot of posts for this guide, so don't misinterpret that as double-posting. Well, here goes.

So, to start, we'll go over some of the basics.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    How to Jailbreak Any Firmware
    ----------------------------------------------------------------

Although Zibri's software, "ZiPhone" is extremely controversial because of plagiarism issues with the official Dev Team's code, ZiPhone still seems to be the most popular solution for jailbreaking the iPod touch. Solutions like iLiberty+ are considered to be much better for their many bug fixes, and general overall improvements and additions. iLiberty+ also won't leave you with that ugly Z on your springboard.

So, to jailbreak your iPod touch on any firmware, start by going to this website on a computer:
    http://theiphoneproject.org/downloads/
Download the software that works with your operating system. Then open iLiberty+ (or X, depending on what you operating system you have). Then plug in your iPod, and click "Free my 8/16GB iPod Touch!". Wait for a minute (code will scroll by on your iPod), then slide to unlock when it finishes. There you go, you have a jailbroken iPod touch.

How to add Sources (a.k.a. Repos) in Installer
    ----------------------------------------------------------------

This is a commonly asked question, so I figured I'd go over it real quick.

Start by tapping the "Installer" icon. Let it load (it may refresh sources automatically--this is okay. Let it finish). Then, in the bottom right corner, tap "Sources". Then, in the top-right corner, tap "Edit". The button in the top-left corner should change to "Add". Tap "Add". A little popup will greet you with a text box. Type the source in, and press "OK". Note that http:// is already there. Once you press "OK", the sources will refresh. That's all there is to it.

How to get the January App Pack for Free
    ----------------------------------------------------------------

If you updated to 1.1.3, only to see that the wiggly icons cost $20, that was probably a disappointment. But, thanks (originally) to iPodTouchMaster, you can get the software upgrade for free.

To do this, you must start by adding this source in Installer:
    http://ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml
Then choose the category that matches your firmware "iPhone 1.1.X Apps". Then install "iPhone Apps", and you're done. Press the home button to exit and respring, and you'll have the apps.
