How are the speakers on the new Ipod Touch? Are the same crappy one we've had since the 2g? Or is it a bit louder?

it is definitely louder than on the 2g and 3g and the sound quality is a bit better IMO. i haven't experimented with it much though, just tried out some music and video mostly. my alerts have been plenty loud though so far. and ekodaniel, check your settings under "Sounds" there's a volume control there just for the ringer and alerts or you can opt to have them match the volume you control with the volume rocker on the side.

The speaker is supposed to emit sound from both the grille and 30-pin dock connector - theoretically it should be louder.

When I play music ya its loud.. But if I test the alarm clock sound. it sounds alittle lower.. Now I did go into the settings onto sounds and crank it up.. But that didnt make it sound louder for the alarm clock.

Sounded plenty loud when I did it just now (and it's plugged in charging so the 30-pin connector is blocked). Loud enough to wake you? Maybe not.
