Ever since iTunes 8.0.2 and firmware 2.2 was released a problem with app updates has been going on, until Apple realizes their problem, i have found a solution for the time being.

If you know what app has an update (check appshopper or others) and you want to download it but iTunes won't recognize the update, here's what you can do:

    1. Find out which app has an update (if by accident it doesn't have an update, it won't matter)
    2. Go to that app that has an update in the app store.
    3. Download that same app again and iTunes will give you this message:

    4. Press OK and iTunes will automatically give you an update for that app that has been previously purchased.

    Enjoy!!!

Yes it does, and i tested it with an app called "Tech News" ($0.99) and it works with any and every app.
In the picture, what's free is the update not the app (most update are free)
