    It only costs $100 to be a dev so if you make any decent app it seems like you would make money.

    It costs $100 to become a developer. It can cost $100,000 to develop an application.

    Time = Money.

    It takes time to create an iOS application. A lot of times it can take easily 100+ hours.

    With the price of graphics/designers and programmers being as it is today, no wonder a lot of Apps do not make back what they costed to make.

    If I make an app, all by myself, in my free time and enjoy it, it doesn't cost me anything.

    Making an app is also a bit like playing monopoly .

    You launch your app at the Go square, but of course you have to pay the $100 to apple for the SDK rather than collecting it from Go. you move on and develop and upgrade your apps by building houses. eventually you get a decent flow of people landing on your apps and paying you. Of course at this point Apple decides they don't like your app and you Go directly to Jail as your app is pulled from the app store.
