This is a discussion thread for the "The App Store is Like Playing the Lottery" story posted on the front page.
Time = Money. It takes time to create an iOS application. A lot of times it can take easily 100+ hours. With the price of graphics/designers and programmers being as it is today, no wonder a lot of Apps do not make back what they costed to make.
Making an app is also a bit like playing monopoly . You launch your app at the Go square, but of course you have to pay the $100 to apple for the SDK rather than collecting it from Go. you move on and develop and upgrade your apps by building houses. eventually you get a decent flow of people landing on your apps and paying you. Of course at this point Apple decides they don't like your app and you Go directly to Jail as your app is pulled from the app store.
