So you pay 200 dollars for the 8GB iPhone. Now you have to agree to a two year contract. No biggy right? Not really. The basic plan starts at 40 dollars a month. That adds up to about 500 dollars a year. For a year full of iPhone goodness you will have to pay at the least 700 dollars, including the cost of the phone. Not only that if you want unlimited data expect to add 30 dollars to the monthly bill. Expect to pay 800 dollars in bills for one year. So if you are making some serious money, or you have some sort of family plan the 3G iPhone really isn't that much more affordable. This is for the people (mostly kids my age) considering selling their iPod Touches for an iPhone.

either way it appears that there's no other way of getting an iPhone without agreeing to a contract. That's what pays for the rest of the phone.

Well.. for a necessity such as a cell phone and a full time job, $800 a year isn't that much if you think about it. But it doesn't matter as long as mom+dad pay for my bills

Word. 800 a year is like 66.6 (repeating of course) a month. Sounds like a competitive price for an unlimited data plan.
